Adept works with a wide variety of Independent Schools throughout the greater New York City metropolitan area. In an effort to support families in selecting the best independent school for their child, we act as a liaison between educational institutions and families. We are highly familiar with the DOE reimbursement process, and can factor this process into questions of cost.
In order to ensure that every child’s academic and social needs are understood, Adept utilizes neuropsychological and psychoeducational assessments, school reports, teacher narratives, and a meeting with the entire family. In this family meeting, it is also important to hear from your child so they can feel like they have a say in their education, and can point to what’s worked for them in the classroom as opposed to what they want to be different.
After engaging in this thorough intake process, we work with families to determine their ideal school by way of metrics like student population size, classroom size, clinical resources, academic scope and sequence, family participation, etc.
We match families with schools that align with their goals, and accompany parents on tours to help them assess each academic environment with the unique learning needs of their child in mind. Through accompanying parents on tours, we can act as their advocate and ask questions that might feel outside of a parent’s area of expertise.
